To Stymie a ‘Trump 2.0’ and Restore Our Democracy, Joe Biden’s Administration Must Enforce Consequences for Disinformation.

Remember Nipplegate — that infamous Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime-show scandal back in 2004 involving pop superstars Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake? In the show’s daring finale, Timberlake ripped away Jackson’s costume, exposing her pierced nipple — inadvertently, according to Jackson’s camp — to 143.6 million viewers on live T.V., courtesy of CBS. Not everyone bought their “wardrobe malfunction” story. Certainly not Les Moonves, the famously vengeful chairman and CEO of CBS. He became obsessed with destroying Jackson’s career. She had not been “sufficiently repentant,” or subservient enough, was the inside story. She didn’t grovel before Moonves as Timberlake had allegedly done. …

Blowing the Lid Off Nazi Influence on Domestic White Supremacist Terror Groups in America

Most Americans know little, if anything, about Nazis among us. Real Nazis. Not those ascribed the word as an irreverent slur or epithet because of their extreme, far-right beliefs in authoritarian ultranationalism. Those would be fascists. The word “Nazi” is actually an abbreviation of Nationalsozialist — one belonging to the National Socialist German Worker Party which existed from 1920 until 1945 when it was declared illegal after the defeat of Adolf Hitler and his totalitarian Third Reich regime. Hitler was both fascist and a Nazi. But it is this latter category to which I am referring. Nazis. Among us.

My curiosity about Nazis in America was piqued recently by a wildly addictive Netflix series, Hunters, starring Al Pacino, released earlier this year. Set in New York City in 1977, Hunters follows the adventures of a troubled young Jewish man, bent on revenge for the murder of his beloved grandmother under very suspicious circumstances. Ultimately, he uncovers — and is taken in by — a secret group of Nazi hunters fighting a clandestine war against a cabal of high-ranking Nazi officials in hiding, who are working underground to create the Fourth Reich. More relevant, however, I discovered that many of the Nazis hunted and scenarios depicted, albeit through creative license in this series, were, in fact, real. …

Political pundits are atwitter over Donald Trump’s pronouncement on Wednesday that there will be no peaceful transition of power if he loses the upcoming election. He could not have been more explicit regarding his authoritarian intent. There can be no doubt now that we’ve entered the final phase in the rabid dogfight for American democracy.

Over the past couple of weeks, as I pondered the trajectory of my career that preceded political commentary, I came to the profound realization that my professional coaching experience has contributed greatly to a deeper understanding of America’s political dilemma. Indeed, if America were a woman who had sought my counsel and recounted to me the horror she had endured over the last four years, I would have arrived at the unmistakable conclusion that I was dealing with a severely traumatized woman — one who had been mentally, emotionally, psychologically and, yes, legally abused. …

It’s Not the One He’s Been Bragging About

In a recent Fox News interview with veteran journalist Chris Wallace that is being hailed as “a masterclass in how to not let Trump get away with his usual bullshit,” Donald Trump bragged about passing a cognitive test with such flying colors that the doctors were moved to tell him — in the middle of the test at that because, well, it just couldn’t wait — how impressed they were with his responses. And why not? His superhero skills were found to encompass more than sheer mendacity and criminal skullduggery. …

A Tipping Point in America — Part 2

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.” — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

America is a ticking time bomb. Americans know it. And now the rest of the world is making it plain — they know it, too. In the three and a half excruciatingly long years under the breathtaking malfeasance of Donald Trump — that “moral vacuum that is now pretending to lead” — this country has plummeted from a highly vaunted place as “the greatest country in the world” to one of ridicule and, now, scorn. The Trump administration’s stunningly inept response to the coronavirus pandemic is but one reason why America is now, quite literally, the scourge of the earth from which “civilized” countries are distancing themselves socially. …

“Please try to remember that what they believe, as well as what they do and cause you to endure, does not testify to your inferiority but to their inhumanity.” — James Baldwin

In a 2016 article, “Elephants in the Room in American Law Enforcement,” I gave a rather prescient warning: “Until law enforcement — and all to whom they’re accountable — can admit that there’s a systemic problem within its ranks and real attempts are made to fix it, we’ll be on a collision course with anarchy. The final straw to break the camel’s back is already spiraling its descent into the Black community...” …

Albert Einstein famously said, “Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Einstein did not foresee our “stable genius” in the White House. That “fish” is not only completely out of his element — more so than any president in the history of the United States — he also refuses to own his unwavering stupidity.

“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF,” Donald Trump shout-tweeted two Sundays ago, shortly before midnight. …

Either Way, It’s Time for Trump to Step Away from the Mic

Donald Trump’s fun and games regarding the coronavirus are over — too late. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the global crisis a pandemic. But that was already obvious to any sensible person with access to the live infographics and updates tracking the virulent spread of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The numbers climb so rapidly that it is almost easy to forget that you are vicariously tracking human beings in real time — people with families. …

There’s far more at play in Election 2020 than removing Donald Trump.

Let me say from the outset that I do not support Mike Bloomberg’s bid for president. If I had not been sufficiently convinced, the lurid details exposed about him in the Democratic debate on Wednesday night — both as a man and as New York City’s mayor — were enough for me.

Through several cringe-worthy exchanges, Bloomberg was unmasked as an arrogant billionaire with deeply held racist and sexist beliefs. To him, the presidency is seemingly his entitlement. If Democratic nominee Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is to be believed, Bloomberg’s staff delivered a pre-debate memo seeking to suppress centrist Democratic nominees such as herself, former Vice President Joe Biden, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg, urging them to drop out of the race. …

Many believe GOP leaders are “spineless cowards” who don’t stand up to Trump. But what if that is a false premise?

Washington is run by polls. Billionaires like Tom Steyer discover soon enough that wealth is insufficient to guarantee success in a presidential race. Education, intellect, political experience, effective messaging, good looks, charisma, even wit, matter. Nowhere is the barometer of overall performance on the campaign trail better reflected than in the polls after each primary debate, as candidates travel through key states making stump speeches, shaking hands, and kissing babies. Political campaigns implode on such polls. …
